suspect, why a local man who escaped this house fire is now facing criminal charges. plus, the first lady does late night and lets her feet do all the talking. first in, a wintery mix of snow, sleet and rain across the region and it's not over yet. this same system has dumped more than a foot of snow in parts of the midwest. tonight, the cleanup continues. >> here's a look from treacherous road conditions in indiana to detroit, to a close call in cleveland, as a plane slides off the runway. so what can we expect? here's meteorologist veronica johnson. >> for the rest of the overnight and tomorrow morning early on, there will be icy patches out there, especially on anything that's elevated. for sidewalks, for steps, for bridges, overpasses, especially in this area that's under the winter weather advisory. that includes d.c., fairfax, prince george's county, montgomery, howard, into loudoun

and areas of northern faquier county. we don't have much at all falling, just a little light stuff that surrounds d.c. extending eastward towards annapolis. that is sleet. a little bit of rain that has again been freezing. so we're going to have this for the overnight period of freezing drizzle throughout the area. our temperatures just below freezing to the north and west. that's what's going to be so critical as we head into tomorrow morning. so isolated slick spots, watch out on sidewalks, steps, bridges and overpasses. so if tomorrow morning is going to be icy, what can you expect for the rest of your saturday? i'll have that forecast coming up. tonight, a man who escaped a deadly house fire in d.c. is facing murder charges. this after a 4-year-old girl died from injuries she suffered in that fire. erica gonzalez is live from the scene in southeast with reaction from the community.

erica? >> reporter: the pieces are starting to come together. we now have a better idea of just exactly what went on here in this house behind me last weekend. detectives tell me the same man arrested here on the scene for assault and for threats, that same day is the man being charged tonight with murder of a 4-year-old girl. tonight, 46-year-old jerome lewis is in jail, charged with the murder of a 4-year-old. detectives say he was related to the girl. >> it just really hit me hard when we heard she died, because she had her whole life ahead of her. >> reporter: neighbors say the little one will be missed. she died from injuries sustained in a house fire on indiana avenue last weekend. >> the screaming escalates, smoke pouring out. >> reporter: jay and michael live across the street. >> she's screaming, save my baby, save my baby. >> reporter: they witnessed the

tragedy unfold. >> with two cops trying to escort him into the paddy wagon, he's kicking his leg after her and is going after the mom. >> reporter: jenkins owned the home, lived in the basement and rented the rest of the house. the basement is where the fire started. lewis escaped the fire while four others had to be taken to the hospital, but later released. so much love in this neighborhood for this family and the tragedy that they have suffered. lots of e-mails are going around is what neighbors tell me and they're trying to think of ways that they can do something to try to help this family out. live in southeast, erica gonzalez, news4. new pictures coming in as police search for suspects in a rash of vandalism. this happened here in the wood haven neighborhood in bethesda.

johns hopkins hospital faces a $70 million lawsuit over a gynecologist accused of secretly recording patients in his exam room. a former patient of the doctor filed the class action negligence lawsuit in baltimore today. leavy killed himself monday after police found videos and pictures of patients at his home. earlier this week, hopkins said any invasion of patient's privacy sis intolerable. tonight, the community is coming together and calling for peace. here is the message from the mother of one of the victims. >> words cannot explain how i feel right now, because i just

lost my baby. theresa williams is lost. searching for answers. >> i'm happy and i'm sad with all of the support that i have out here. >> reporter: tears pouring down teen's faces as 100 people mourn, remembering the high school 9th grader. some wore "rest in peace" photos paying tribute on their jackets. he and another were shot and killed here in forestville tuesday evening. >> it was like a brother to me. he didn't deserve this at all. this is crazy. >> reporter: he was one of six prince george's public school students killed this year. kidd was soon to be a father. >> i feel sorry for his baby's momma. >> reporter: the mother also passed out flyers like this one here, stating there's a cash reward up to $25,000 for

thanks for staying with us. we're having some technical issues this evening. the man hunt goes on for a gunman who fired on another proving car in las vegas, causing this deadly crash. someone in a black range rover shot up a maserati on the vegas strip yesterday after an argument outside a resort. the driver of the maserati, kenny cherry, sped through a red light and slammed into a taxi. that taxi exploded. cherry, the taxi driver and the passenger were all killed. cherry's parents are on their way to vegas. >> kenny was a smart, lovable personal and cared about other

people. >> the taxi driver, michael boldin, moved to las vegas a year and a half ago to be with his 93-year-old mother. a photo-op with president obama could lead to changes within the d.c. fire department. three firefighters appeared in uniform at an event on tuesday as president obama talked about the impact of sequestration cuts. d.c. fire ems chief said the firefighters never asked for permission to represent the district at a public event and the department will be reviewing protocol. t a major turn around in one of d.c.'s neighborhoods that just a few years ago was riddled with crime. the most expensive house in the trinidad neighborhood just sold with an original asking price of almost $1 million. this comes five years after police set up checkpoints in response to a two-month crime wave here. real estate experts say new businesses and attractions along the h street corridor have

helped draw people back. but some current residents worry about being forced out of the community, due to rising property values. one family is turning their grief into something positive. the bacon family launched the website newtownkindness.org after their daughter was killed in the shooting massacre. people post their rap dom acts of kindness on the site and today the family awarded some of the greatest submissions with a trophy. they said it was the best way to honor charlotte's memory. michelle obama is celebrating the third anniversary of her let's move campaign with a stop at jimmy fallon's show. mrs. obama started doing the dougie.

average. average now 48 degrees. this will probably be the nicest saturday and sunday that we've had all month long. monday's temperature close to 50. 50 on tuesday with windy conditions. right now there is a big storm that's going to be dropping through the pacific northwest. seattle, washington that will arrive here on tuesday. right now it's looking like rain. but there's a slight chance that we could have a little freezing rain mixed in on tuesday. wednesday, the high 50. for thursday right now, dry conditions, your high 47. a few flurries possible early friday. right now it's a 50/50 weekend for us guys. make those plans for sunday definitely getting outside. >> the better of the two. >> thanks, veronica. a maryland man remains in critical condition after a crash involving a school bus this afternoon. the bus had students with special needs on board. the man ran into an suv on clapper road this afternoon. the impact pushed the suv into

the bus, which was from clapper mill elementary. that section of the road was closed for hours but is now back open. tonight, that 11-year-old girl is fighting for her life after a deadly house fire in glenn arden yesterday. her father, darrell price jr. and two sisters, tonya and patrice, were killed. as the investigation continues, we're hearing from one of the firefighters who arrived on the scene. one of the girls was able to make it out safely after remembering an important lesson she had gotten from firefighters who visited her school. >> i was trying to keep her calm and she was telling me, i was asking her how she got out. she was telling me that she was able to get out of the house because of the family evacuation plan that she learned. >> that 8-year-old girl who escaped and mother suffered smoke inhalation. the cause of the fire is electrical and appears to have

been an accident. an event celebrating young people in law enforcement took on new meaning tonight in the wake of a young officer's death. dozens attended tonight in mitchellville. the banquet was renamed in honor of morris who was in a cruiser chasing a suspect when the car ran off the road. he was thrown from the car and killed. he began his career as a police explorer before joining the force. the police chief says the program plays a critical role in the community. >> one of the most important things we do with young people is this explorer program. oscar pistorius is free on bail tonight after nine days behind bars. a judge released the olympic athlete on $114,000 bond. pistorius broke down crying in court after hearing the

decision. but he must surrender his passport and guns. he cannot use drugs or alcohol and cannot return to his home where his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp, was shot and kill. new legal trouble for lance armstrong. the u.s. government is suing him for using performance enhancing drugs during the tour de france. the justice department claims he cheated the u.s. postal service out of $30 million it paid to sponsor his team. the suit says he defrauded the government when he lied about doping. armstrong's attorneys the argue the postal service benefited from its sponsorship. a decision strips dunbar high school from its turkey bowl playoff win. the school district says a member of the squad was not a d.c. resident and therefore not eligible to play. officials say he played in two games and that meant dunbar was not eligible to be in the final game. dunbar can appeal before the
